Emergencies can occur at any time. Are you prepared? Would you know what to do in the event of an earthquake? Would you be able to be self sufficient for a minimum of 72 hours while emergency workers care for critically injured individuals. Do you have a plan for communication and reunification with loved ones or roomates if you are separated during an emergency?

The following information is intended to help you prepare yourself and your family for handling an emergency. By taking a few simples steps today, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies -- anytime, anywhere.

Know your risks

Earthquakes, fires, floods, hazardous materials spills. These are just a few of the 57 known hazards in British Columbia. Take a close look at your surroundings and identify the risks and hazards in your neighbourhood and workplace.

Make a plan

The Provincial Emergency Preparedness Office has compiled a guide for preparing yourself and your family. Public Safety Canada's Get Prepared brochure has useful information for helping you and your family be self sufficient for 72hrs while Emergency Workers respond to the most critical situations.
